According to the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023:
Public Prosecutor or Additional Public Prosecutor: Advocates must have a minimum of seven years of practice.
Special Public Prosecutor: Advocates must have a minimum of ten years of practice.
General Requirement: Advocates in Tamil Nadu with not less than seven or ten years of standing at the Bar (depending on the post) are eligible to apply.
